An Introduction

Tarot, and in particular the Tarot de Marseille, is a great passion of mine, and one of the primary subjects of this blog. In trying to understand it on its own terms, I have found wordplay and puns, visual and otherwise, to be ubiquitous within the cards of this Tarot deck.
A large part of this involves the French language, and the French of the Tarot de Marseille, can be quite different from that of contemporary French. To aid my own exploration, I have begun to develop a Tarot de Marseille Dictionary, drawing from 17th Century French-English dictionaries, and lists of French proverbs.
This dictionary is in no way complete, and likely will be an eternal work in progress. That is part of the joy of this exploration, and one I wish to offer to others that share these interests.
In the future, I will continue to update this dictionary, as well as this blog; and this post serves as the introduction to both. I hope that you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy researching and creating it, and I look forward to sharing with you many new insights over the years.
